SURF. LIFE. LUXURY...

HAPPY 2011!! I hope y'all had a great holiday and are eagerly looking forward to an amazing and joy filled NEW YEAR.

I must admit I have had a bit of writer's block. I think it has something to do with spending the holiday in the cold, cold snow of the midwest while EVERYONE I know was in either...

Cabo

The Grenadines

Miami

Punta del Este

The Bahamas

Australia

or various Hawaiian Islands...

I DID NOT spend my days trying to decide which pom-pom cover-up or Eres bikini to wear. I DO NOT have a new bikini line or a collection of sea shells. I DID NOT spend the holiday eating fresh fruit and fish caught the same day. I DO NOT have a bunch of mini sized shampoos or soaps that I took from the hotel room.

So finding the beach inspiration that drives this blog has been tough. But don't worry loyal followers, I am planning my warm winter get-away as we speak and I am already collecting ideas for a Seaton Surf blog-a-palooza!

Surfing for life...

I saw this amazing movie called SURFING FOR LIFE. It is about a group of wonderful people who are still surfing in their 70's, 80's and 90's. I was especially smitten by Eve Fletcher who at 30 took up surfing and, in over 50 years, has not stopped!

This movie confirmed that I am the laziest person on earth and should be ashamed. These older folks are crazy cool. So what do you think the first thing I did after watching it? Well, I sat at my computer for the next hour or so "Surfing" the web for information on Eve.

She is 83 years old and is one of the oldest women still surfing. Her favorite spot is San Onofre, the home of more surfers over 70 than any other beach in the world.
Says Eve: "I plan to surf till I drop. You are never too old to be stoked!"

Eve surfing on a cold Christmas day in a white mohair sweater "...for a little bit of warmth. It was too good a day not to go out!" Really, because it was 56 degrees yesterday and I stayed in my pajamas all day.
It was too cold outside :)

Her day job was as an animation supervisor at Disney where she worked on Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella.

Eve says "The greatest thing about surfing is that you learn so much about the ocean, the birds, the porpoises. You forget all your problems. You love everyone." I could not agree more!

xoxo Eve. You ROCK!

That girl...

Everyone has been asking...who was that girl in the leopard dress? Who made that dress? Where was she really!? Well...

She is Aurora Sansones. Her day job is fashion editor and stylist for Vogue Nippon. She is the protege of our favorite, Anna Della Russo. She is an Italian super stylish girl about town who is known for mixing boyish silhouettes with feminine accents. I can't find her age anywhere which just makes her even more fantastic!

She is my nominee for the Seaton in Japan girl :)

After leaving Celine
I love, love, love the leopard pumps with navy sweater dress and red bag. I will definitely be copying this look (after I buy leopard pumps, a navy sweater dress and red bag)

This is the front shot of our favorite photo
(how come when I try to pull of this look I just look homeless?)

So simple. So stylish. So nostalgic. So comfortable.

A simple, "Lets go to J.Crew and do our best to copy this fantastic look" outfit.

Perfection...

By the way, I thought I was the only one stalking her but it seems like Scott and Garance really are stalking her! Phew, that will take the heat off me if the case goes to court!

Yikes...I never found out who made the dress...If you know, please tell me.

Ahhhh...

Everything about this picture makes me happy. I love her dress. I love the slightness off her shoes. I love her hair that looks undone and effortless. The Celine bag is perfect. Her bulky men's cut sweater provides just the right juxtaposition.

Where is she? I think she is window shopping in Paris after just grabbing a chocolate croissant with her best girlfriend. Over a late breakfast they spoke about their plans for the weekend and how much they both loved the new exhibit at the Maison Européenne de la Photographie. Her friend complained "That Azzedine Alaia dress was sold right out from under me!". Our girl consoled her by reminding her that the "Room in the back " had sale items that were just as great. They split after kissing on each cheek which left our girl to wander the streets window shopping for that certain something that might unexpectedly catch her eye...

Or...she just left Target on Sepulveda in the valley and is now on her way across the street to Costco where on her long list is 42 rolls of toilet paper and a vat jar of ketchup.

Either way, she is definitely a Seaton in the City girl!

P.S. I love you...

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Palm Springs. My fondest memories include being 16 and driving up and down, up and down and up and down the strip over spring break. So when invited for a weekend "OUT OF TOWN" I said
"YES, YES, YES"

I folded up my favorite Eres bikini plus four others for a two day trip because you never know what might happen and you DO NOT want to be caught without a fresh bikini.

Found my Seaton Pom Pom tunic...This pale pink goes with every bikini I have and always makes me look tanner then I am. LOVE IT.

Slid on my my new KJacques in Leopard
(new at Jill Roberts)

Made sure I had a full bottle of Maui Babe.
With only two days in the sun who has time for sunscreen? Oh gosh I hope my dermatologist does not read this.

Brought a stack of unread magazines.
(I love this cover. Provocative and smart. Barbara Kruger is genius)

Packed the full on 'Deluxe" turntable version of Scrabble...Who wants to be in the sun without Scrabble?

Then headed east into the dessert. After just 1 hour 25 minutes we hit...Paradise!

The OUTLET MALL!
Marni, YSL, Prada and Ralph Lauren (blue and black label) were great. Question? Why do I always trick myself into thinking that the $2500 YSL bag at Neiman Marcus will be $300 at the outlet mall? I am always disappointed but trust me I got over it very quickly...

On to dinner. There is such a great Thai restaurant on Palm Canyon. Thai Smile...yummy.
Great when you are so hungry from so much walking/shopping

Had a drink at the newly renovated Colony Palms Hotel. Martyn Lawrence-Bullard did a great job. The Moroccan flare is warm and sophisticated at the same time.

Next day was spent by the pool, laughing, playing games, pouring on "IT'S A 10" leave in conditioner (makes your hair soooo soft and smooth) and drinking while catching some much needed rays

Then to Matchbox for pizza. Prosciutto and olive's on a very thin crust. Sooo good.

Woke up for a great breakfast at Cheeky's on the way out of town. UNBELIEVABLY great. Fresh squeezed OJ, amazing steel cut oatmeal and something called "The Bacon flight". You get 5 differnt types of bacon...Smokehouse, applewood, jalapeno, maple and extra thick.
CRAZY good (we had two orders)

Then back on the 10 headed west. Palm Springs is so nostalgic for me. I think we are so lucky to have such a great vacation spot so close to home.

Oh and don't forget to stop in at Lavish Bath & Body for custom made body oils and scrubs. You get to choose your scent. I chose Vanilla/Gardenia...mmmmm good! I swear, the scrubs make your skin soft like a baby.

Which watch are you?

If you are like me, I am a different "watch" almost every day. I switch often and when I get sick of one I trade or sell it to get another. I have only mourned one watch that I traded away...A 1967 Rolex Air King...I miss "Her" very, very much.

Van Cleef & Arpels - Alhambra
A real "Lady" watch. I am still a "Girl" but as soon as I cross that line...VCA here I come.

Cartier - Ballon Bleu
At first I was not a fan but I must say it looks amazing on everyone.
With loads of gold bangles...Divine!

Franck Muller - Casablanca
Unique, sexy and substantial in platinum.

Timex - Ironman
The best and most fashionable workout watch. Keeps perfect time all of the time.

Rolex - Datejust
I am currently scheming and searching for the perfect one.
Sophisticated with "Old school" style.

Cartier - Tank
The first watch I ever coveted. My aunt had one that she accidentally threw in the garbage can. I mourned the loss more then she did!

Rolex - Air King (I think)
J. Crew put it in it's specialty shop. For obvious reasons it sold out almost immediately!

Bulgari - Tubogas
A bit garish and over the top? FOR SURE.
I want it and I want it yesterday!

Rolex - Submariner
My favorite everyday. Ocean. Snow. Wherever. Whenever!

Hermes - Medor
Perfection. They don't make the gold anymore...So I am extra careful with it. Most people complement me on my "Bracelet" I love to surprise them with the watch inside.

Sadly, no matter how much the watch costs or how beautiful it is...Time goes by too quickly.

Starfish and palm trees oh my...

STARFISH
Did you know that starfish have eyes? While they can't see as well as we do, they have one eye at the end of each arm. I have a funny feeling that some can see better then I do at the end of the day when I can barely read my book...

They make me happy!

In nature...

On paper...
iomoi stationary, labels, napkins etc. so cute and clean - www.iomoi.com

On my desk...
baccarat paper weight

On my back...
Seaton boyfriend cardigan in charcoal

Under my drink...
linen cocktail napkins - www.isolabelleshop.com

PALM TREES
Did you know that the juice from coconuts is used intravenously as a hydration fluid in some developing countries where medical saline is unavailable?

I like to decorate my table with them...
Muslin napkins from Esty - www.etsy.com

And to remind me that the food is California fresh...
In-n-Out

To keep me warm...
Seaton boyfriend cardigan in turquoise

To help me stay healthy and hydrated...in an OVER developed country

But mostly to remind me that there is no place like the beach...
